Teezo Touchdown looks like the bravest musician to enter the fashion world in a long time. His music covers – not mixes – rap, emo and strong pop. He makes lo-fi videos of life on the road and in his native Texas and posts them on Instagram, all part of a campaign he calls “get rid of the middle” to remove mediocrity from his life and strive for greatness. And every morning he and his team combed his hair with almost 15 kilograms of construction nails. Throughout the day a pound or two will fall. I wondered: is the style heavy?
“Life is hard,” he said in a phone call last week. “I get a lot of this question. I also understand, “How do you sleep?” But I never get, “Hey, those nails will take you to the top.” Which I want to do, because every time everyone says something like, “Yo, does your neck hurt or back? ”I don’t notice until they say so. So I would like to explain: please start saying positive things about your nails. Because whatever is said on the nails, it happens. “
Teezo’s statement about nail-based success seems to be coming true. He had a feature for Tyler, The Creator’s Call me if you get lost, and will join the rapper on tour in early 2022. And on Saturday he participated in an intimate show about Matthew Williams ‘latest collaboration with Moncler, as part of Genius’ ongoing partnership with the Italian luxury line with its 1017 Alyx 9SM brand. “Teezo is truly unique, in so many ways, but mostly in his approach to music and visualization,” Williams wrote in an email. “And to be [able] sharing and creating together is one of the things that makes the presentation of Moncler Genius such a special moment. ”
The show was part of a global festival called Mondo Genius – a presentation of five cities in collaboration with eleven designers who, under the Moncler Genius program, brought the edge of the track to the brand’s swollen wear. Jonathan Anderson screened a short film directed by Luca Guadanino, for example in Milan, while Veronica Leoni hosted a concert with Solange on New York’s Upper East Side. Williams made a film with Teezo, which debuted on Saturday, focusing on the “anti-utopian uniform”, as the designer put it, that he continues to develop for Moncler. “We have new shapes, such as the sleeveless pieces and high boots and thigh glasses, which are new and complete the evolution of the silhouette of the previous collection,” added Williams.
With Williams’ solid advantage and focus on tactile and Teezo’s dogmatic commitment to originality, the couple found a quick relationship. They first contacted about a year ago, but finally met in person earlier this month. “We had a conversation over some water,” Teezo said with a laugh. “I was like, it’s crazy to sit in your kitchen, put nails everywhere, and then you’re on the other side of the table and doing this thing like a rock star as much as it’s fashionable. But here we are, sitting quietly over this glass of water! ”
