The last frontier became a reality for the man playing Captain James T. Kirk.
William Shatner, the famous actor who plays Captain Kirk in the Star Trek franchise show and movies, flew into space aboard the Blue Origin spacecraft. The launch took place at approximately 10:50 a.m. EDT, according to a live broadcast YouTube channel of Blue Origin (presented below).
At 90, William Shatner is now the oldest man to launch a rocket into space.
And he bravely travels where few have gone before.
Captain Kirk became an astronaut aboard the New Shepard of Blue Origin
Actor William Shatner and three other crew members of Blue Origin’s NS-18 New Shepard rocket they boarded the rocket and were hooked up to launch into space. Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos personally escorted a four-member crew to the capsule. The launch was originally scheduled for 9:30 a.m., but was delayed and then stopped at 10:18 a.m. EDT. But at 10:50 a.m., the EDT rocket took off from the launch pad and began its flight into space with Captain Kirk on board. Approximately two and a half minutes after the flight, the crew began to experience zero gravity and shouts were heard from the ground. The capsule is released from the booster 3 minutes after take-off.
And 3 minutes and 30 seconds after the flight, the crew aboard the Blue Origin crew capsule officially entered space. The vessel reached 106,680 meters above 350,000 feet before its ascent stopped, and the capsule began a slow backward trajectory to return to the earth’s surface. Possessing a cylindrical, more aerodynamic body, the launch vehicle descended much faster and touched without interruption for approximately 7 minutes and 20 seconds after launch. This was the fourth flight into space and back for the New Shepard vehicle.
William Shatner returns safely to the earth’s surface
After a short, 10-minute journey, William Shatner and the rest of the crew, who were 96th to 99th astronauts so far, touched without incident. Captain Kirk’s first space venture was a complete success. “It’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced before,” Shatner said, according to the live broadcast.
William Shatner’s first space flight in 90 years made him the oldest man to ever reach the limit, and a small but enthusiastic crowd gathered near the launch pad while the clock was ticking. The start was a 10-minute journey with three other crew members like Jeff Bezos’ summer flight. Although this is not a leap to the rate of distortion in the fictional starship Enterprise, the atmosphere of the launch was palpable. “It’s time for Captain Kirk to physically ascend into space,” said Vanny Horn Mayor Becky Brewster, according to a AP News report. Van Horn is a nearby rural town of approximately 1,800 people that was a deserted farmer in faraway West Texas before Blue Origin’s space facilities changed it for storage.
