Coldplay’s Green Ploy to make the fun more sustainable

Climate change is a hot topic right now that just can’t be ignored. That’s why we were excited to see that the band Coldplay was doing something about releasing their latest album.

With your new world tour, issued group set of steps they said it would help make the tour “as sustainable and low-carbon as possible” in order to “reduce our consumption, recycle widely and reduce CO2 emissions by 50 percent”.

What are these steps and how effective will they be? Well, Coldplay plans to release a report when the tour is over, outlining how well each initiative went.

The steps taken so far

Coldplay is committed to supplying its show, where possible, with sustainable, low-emission energy sources. The exhibition stage will be equipped with solar panels, and buses and trucks will be powered by hydrotreated vegetable oil, which can reduce generator emissions by up to 90 percent.

Around the stage will be a kinetic floor this will allow fan movements to load the show. There will also be fan bikes that generate electricity so that the audience can help power the show.

Perhaps most impressively, they are working with BMW to produce the world’s first mobile, rechargeable battery for the show, made from recycled BMWi3 parts.

They want to tour countries that have many renewable energy sources and start their tour in Costa Rica, as 99% of the country’s energy is renewable.

Coldplay also invests heavily in recyclable reusable materials. Their stage will be made up of lightweight components such as bamboo and recycled steel, which can be used again after the show is over.

Finally, the LED wrists used for the show will be made of 100% compostable material and will be collected after each performance to be disinfected and reused for the next.

All of these initiatives may sound impressive, but they are only a small part of what the group is doing. If you visit their website, you can read their much more promises.
