3 very special trips that we can’t stop talking about

BICYCLES FOR ADVENTURE IN THE OKAVAN DELTA

Going on safari is, for many, a lifelong experience. For an introductory trip — with outstanding hospitality and stunning scenery — Botswana’s Okavango Delta is where you want to be. The topography varies tremendously from one end of the delta to the other; it makes sense to extend your stay in two or three camps to soak up your majesty. Wilderness Safaris operates several beautiful and strategically located camps: the classic King’s Pool in Linyanti and the fresh and contemporary Qorokwe near Moremi are two favorites.

A safari is all about adventure. Create binoculars, climb along with the deceived Land Cruiser and start exploring the horizon to look for big cats like giraffes, buffaloes and cheetahs and lions. As your great guide will tell you, it’s not about recognizing the big five, it’s about fully appreciating the miracle of the natural world.

Near the Namibian border, King’s Pool Camp is a set of straw and canvas villas on the edge of a glass pool (it looks quiet during the day, but takes on life at night, when hippopotamuses climb to the edge to graze). Take a helicopter to see the rivers overflowing with buffalo, crocodiles and elephant and zebra herds. Sundowners (that’s what safari is all about with evening cocktails) happen at the bell of a Land Cruiser to dine before returning to the inn, telling stories, and closing before the next adventure.
