A new prototype of eVTOL with tandem wings has five times more than rivals

One of the defining moments of the new eVTOL and the increase in flying fees came in 2011, when Thomas Senkel designed and then operated the first manned multicopter while working for the German company E-Volo, which has since been rebranded as Volocopter.

Now, as a report from New atlas points out that Senkel is working on a new eVTOL prototype with a tandem wing called “eMagic Aircraft”, and the aircraft was recently demonstrated in action.

Senkel left Volocopter in 2016 after complaining about the inefficiency of the company’s aircraft range at the time. The pioneer of flying taxis continued to found the eMagic Aircraft project with pilot and engineer Michael Kugelgen. Although the footage does not show how the eMagic One switches from vertical to normal flight, Senkel explained that the aircraft is very suitable for this purpose. “The tandem wing configuration gives excellent flight characteristics,” Senkel said New atlas. “It’s impossible to stop it. The tandem wing prototype increases the range of eVTOL

The eMagic One is a hybrid between an airplane and a multicopter, allowing five times the range of a standard multicopter. According to the eMagic Aircraft website, eMagic One is It is 23.6 feet (7.2 m) long and has a wingspan of 25.2 feet (7.6 m). The aircraft has a maximum take-off weight of 882 lb (420 kg). The fuselage is designed to be as light as possible, and the empty aircraft weighs an impressive 562 pounds (255 kg).

The tandem wing aircraft has custom propellers, as well as two independent battery systems and a shock-absorbing carbon chassis. It can reach a top speed of 105 mph (170 km / h) and has a flight time of up to one hour.

The Magic Aircraft team has funded the project on its own so far and is now looking for investments to enable it to further develop the prototype in order to turn it into a three-seater flying taxi.
