When Christmas is just around the corner, you may want to really get into the spirit of the season with your own running reindeer and sleigh. To make one, all you need is a little wood waste and a little elbow grease.
But first you will take some materials and equipment to get the job done.
The best choices that will help you get the job done
With all your tools and materials in hand, now is the time to continue with this epic but great design.
Step 1: Make the main body of the sled
The first step is to take your large wooden bobbins and dismantle them completely. Follow the main parts of the disc.
Clean and sand them. Alternatively, you can use a few large sheets of wood instead.
After doing this, sketch the design for the sides of the sled, transfer them to the wood and cut as needed.
Obviously you will need two matching pieces.
Then take the central cylinder of the large bobbin and cut it into a set of strips, as shown in the video.
Step 2: Add details to the sled
Then take your router and carve the shape of the inner walls of the sled. You can copy the design to the video or follow your own design.
After doing this, shape and bend the bobbin strips that you cut earlier to match the curvature of the grooves on the inner wall that you cut earlier. Connect the parts to the main sides of the sled as needed.
Glue and screw in place if necessary.
Step 3: Make the wheels
With a few more pieces of wood, cut a series of blocks large enough for the wheels. Draw the size of the wheels and cut them as needed. Then drill a hole in the middle. You will need a total of four of them.
Then take some more wood, design the sliders and cut as needed. You can make them as detailed or simple as you want.
After doing this, take a few steel rods and connect the wooden wheels between the runners as shown below. Then attach the runners to the main sled if necessary.
Once ready, the sled should roll freely on its wheels. Adjust as needed, if not.
Step 4: Make the deer
As with the sled, sketch the design of the reindeer’s body, head and legs, transfer to a small tree and cut as needed.
When finished, connect the sides of the body together with steel rods and add the mechanical and electrical parts to the drive system as shown.
When you are done, connect the head and legs to the main body.
Then close the main body cavity with matching closer plates, as shown in the video. Once the deer is complete, mount the deer to the sled as needed and connect all cables from the drive system to the sled.
Then add any other decorative elements to the sledge and deer as desired. Once the basic design is complete, seal the wood and / or paint it the desired color.
When this is done, your Santa’s wooden sleigh is ready. Light the deer, take presents and take the sleigh for joy!
