The luxury ACH160 is “the most modern interpretation of Airbus”

The Airbus ACH160 corporate helicopter has an autopilot function that takes over the function when the helicopter goes into free fall, article from Report by Rob explains.

When in recovery mode, the autopilot is able to stop this free fall and return the helicopter to a stable trajectory. Airbus advertises the machine, which will be delivered to its first customer this year, as one of its most modern flying machines.

“Intuitive, simple” luxury flying machine

The ACH160 is Airbus’ state-of-the-art corporate helicopter and one of the most luxurious aircraft in the world. It has a cabin height of four feet and four inches (1.32 m), large windows and low vibrations in the interior. The helicopter flies at a maximum cruising speed of 178 mph (286 km / h) and has a maximum endurance of four hours and 30 minutes.

In addition to the state-of-the-art recovery autopilot feature, it also has automated collision avoidance features and can perform automated take-offs. The helicopter is built to the specifications of an American customer who will receive it this year, although other custom models are available.

“Helicopter crashes often involve human error, especially if the avionics are complex,” said Olivier Gense, a test pilot for the ACH160. Report by Rob in an interview. “We designed the Helionix 3 system to be intuitive and simple, showing critical information if necessary. It’s about reducing the pilot’s load without a hundred buttons on the display, “he continued.

“The most modern interpretation of Airbus’ vision”

On its website, Airbus says the ACH160 is ” the most modern interpretation of Airbus’ vision and that its design has been achieved thanks to 68 new patents. Airbus is working on several technologies that have the potential to change urban airspace in the coming years, including its electric eVTOL flying taxi called “CityAirbus”which claims to be quieter than a vacuum.

In collaboration with the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the company also announced in March this year it is working on a “full rotor head fairing with optimized aerodynamic shape”, which provides increased speed while reducing carbon emissions and noise pollution. We will not be surprised to see that this technology has been added to the next iteration of the ACH160.
