France will make booster vaccines against COVID-19 available to all adults

Two parliamentary sources revealed on Reuters on Thursday, France will soon impose booster vaccines for COVID-19 for all adults, along with stricter rules for wearing face masks and checks for health omissions due to a new wave of infections. Health Minister Olivier Veran will share details of the press conference, which will take place at noon on Thursday.

The French health regulator Haute Autorite de Sante (HAS) said it was shortening the period between full vaccination and booster vaccines from six months to five. France has seen a significant increase in new cases with more than 30,000 new infections reported on Wednesday for the second day in a row, a percentage not seen since late April.

In addition, the number of cases leading to intensive care reached nearly 1,500, a number that has not been observed since late September. Booster photos can offer additional protection that can help limit these numbers.

Until now, booster vaccines have been reserved mainly for high-risk populations, however Pfizer CEO Albert Burla said in April 2021 that people will “probably” need the 3rd dose of COVID-19 vaccine within six to 12 months after vaccination.

In August 2021 tUS Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allowed booster doses for immunocompromised in a move to offer additional protection to individuals whose immune systems are weakened and may not have produced enough antibodies after both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

In October 2021, a group of advisers to the FDA vote unanimously to propose the launch of Moderna’s COVID-19 booster vaccines for citizens aged 65 or over, in addition to people at high risk of serious illness or occupational proximity to the virus.

France added that the booster injection would be a key requirement for the country’s health card, which is needed to enter all public places.
